3 Bath Products That You Can Make At Home

Nowadays there's a multitude of bath and cosmetic care products available, but most of them contain at least one or two chemical preservatives or stabilizers that can be harmful to your health. There are many types of bathing products that you can make at home, using your own ingredients, without adding any chemicals that can be harmful to your skin. And here are a few of them.

1. Bath bombs

To make bath bombs, you will need baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch as main ingredients, usually two times more baking soda than citric acid and two times more citric acid than cornstarch. Then you can add various essential and fragrance oils, mix the ingredients, pour into molds and let them to dry. There are various recipes for bath bombs that you can find online.

2. Bath salts

There are many types of bath salts for sale, but you can make your own salts, using the essential oils that you prefer. For homemade bath salts it is best to use Epsom and sea (or Dead Sea) salts (in various combinations) and one or a mix of essential oils, without adding to much oil, of course. You can also add food coloring but since most of these are chemicals, they shouldn't be in your bath salts, if you want an all natural product. Bath salts can also be mixed with plant leaves, for a superior visual and therapeutic effect, and fragrance. However, if you add crushed, fresh leaves, it's best to use the salts right away.

3. Soap

The main ingredients for soap are lye, distilled water and essential oils. The process is simple. Add the lye to the water and let it to cool (it's an exothermic reaction), then add essential oils which were warmed up to match the temperature of the lye water. Mix until the composition is even. It's best though to follow a specific formula for homemade soap, to make sure you don't add too much lye. Done properly, at the end of the saponification process, there won't be any lye into the soap. There can be many other inclusions brought to the soap depending on the recipe, for example rose perals, or crushed cucumber peels are great ideas.
